A yacht pulls into a harbour of an island off New Guinea. Besides the natives, an English missionary couple, an English trader and his native family, a German trader, and an American trader live there.
The German and the American have secrets that come to light when they recognize the captain of the yacht as someone who used to buy natives to work as slaves from them. The natives seem civilized, but are less than 10 years away from having been cannibals. There is treachery all around.
Good plotting, characterizations, and description.
