The Count of Monte Cristo
A classic adventure novel, often considered Dumas' best work, and frequently included on lists of the best novels of all time. Completed in 1844, and released as an 18-part series over the next two years, Dumas collaborated with other authors throughout. The story takes place in France, Italy, and the Mediterranean from the end of the rule of Napoleon I through the reign of Louis-Philippe.

revenge full story,all characters are memorable ones

just finished this great book last night. Ever since seeing the 70's movie i always loved the story. The most recent movie was great too. And i liked the way it finished with albert being revealed as dantes son, explaining why mercedes married fernand, and mercedes and dantes ending up together. The count never expressed any love for haydee, even at the end really. Was surprised and a little disappointed at the ending. Still, a great read.

This is, by far, my favorite book....EVER! Edmond is so angsty and turns into this amazing wrathful god who is gentle and loving one moment, and vengeful the next. Sweet Haydee, who adores him is all the sweetness of Woman. The characters are intelligent and thought provoking. They show themselves to be all the evil and goods of humanity. The perfect story of love, hate, revenge and redemption.
As a side note, read the unabridged version (this one is unabridged). You miss so much in the abridgements of this classic.

For the most part, a very well written novel. There were a few points where the language got quite fanciful but considering it was a collaborative work over an extended period that sort of thing is prone to happen.

The best book I've read. This book weighs a ton but once you get started you won't be able to put it down. I was hoping for Albert to be his son but oh well. Also, Dumas developed the character of Countess G to be so interesting but he missed the chance to do anything with it. I was hoping for this character to be more involved in Paris but nothing there.
