"There is something altogether fascinating about 'Miss Billy,' some inexplicable feminine characteristic that seems to demand the individual attention of the reader from the moment we open the book until we reluctantly turn the last page."--Boston Transcript.

ey wouldn't," she objected. "You don't know how noisy I am."

The lawyer stirred restlessly and pondered.

"But, surely, my dear, isn't there some relative, somewhere?" he demanded. "How about your mother's people?"

Billy shook her head. Her eyes filled again with tears.

There was only Aunt Ella, ever, that I knew anything about. She and mother were the only children there were, and mother died when I was a year old, you know."

"But your father's people?"

"It's even worse there. He was an only child and an orphan when mother married him. He died when I was but six months old. After that there was only mother and Aunt Ella, then Aunt Ella alone; and now--no one."

"And you know nothing of your father's people?"

"Nothing; that is--almost nothing."

"Then there is some one?"

Billy smiled. A deeper pink showed in her cheeks.

"Why, there's one--a man but he isn't really father's people, anyway. But I--I have been tempted to write to him."

its actually about Billy Neilson.. SHE is actually a girl.. a nice one that too...
all her relatives have died... the only person she knows is her father's old boy-hood friend.

and so she send this person, who's name is William Henshaw, a letter.. the letter does not explain the fact that Billy is a girl...

now William has 2 brothers - Cyril (who stays almost all day in his room with his music).. and Bertram.( a jolly fellow who paints quite well).

so without knowing that Billy is a girl..

this story is about Billy's adventures in the Stratum. (the house in which William,Cyril and Bertram Henshaw stay at).

its a really really really good book.
I LOVE this book !!...
it has its funny side and also its kind of romantic side... there are the other two books too..

:)
Orphaned, 18-year-old Billy Neilson writes to her father's boyhood friend, William Henshaw, for whom she was named, asking whether she can make her home with him. Thinking her a boy, he and his two brothers agree to take her in to their bachelor quarters. To their consternation and delight, she turns their lives topsy turvy -- until a well-meaning busybody makes it clear just how much she's "upset" their previously placid existence. Ultimately, the story turns into a tame farce of mixed-up love affairs, but Miss Billy and her cohorts are charming.
