Paul Hatton’s book reviews

Read this after seeing the last review. Not disappointed. Most of the story is mildly humourous and brings several smiles, and now and then brings open laughter. If you are in the mood for a short tale which will brighten your day, give it a go

Sequel to 3 men in a not and although not as funny as the former is still a recommended read for the humour, as well as insight in Germany and it's people at the end of the 19th century (although the people haven't changed that much)

Quick read, amusing rather than funny about first alien visitor to earth. Good short to kill 10 minutes or so.

I have read this book more times than I care to remember. Each time I laugh until it hurts and gasp at the descriptive writing in between the humour. I still have tears rolling down my face with the tin of pineapple (Harris sustained a slight flesh wound). This must be one of the greatest books written in the English language. If you haven't already read it..... DO. It cannot be recommended highly enough

The author does some excellent research and then blows it by arriving at a totally illogical and incorrect conclusion. Worth reading if only to see the some of the lies which have been propagated by governments for many years

A book which makes the reader think. Beautifully written. Only problem here is that it's (so far) the only of his works available for download. I read many of his work many years ago, and all are as wonderful as this and require the reader to carefully consider and then re-consider what he thinks the tale is telling

Although I enjoyed this as much as other tales by this author, I feel that they become very similar to each other. However, having said that, I also feel that Lovecraft is a wonderful weaver of suspense/horror.

This is the first of Somerset Maugham's novels I have (tried) to read. Apparently a tale of life for a young girl in Lambeth. Sadly I found the after 20 or so pages I was bored and waiting for something to happen.... anything. At that point I gave up with the tale. Should this be typical of the author, don't think I'd bother and am not sure why he is held is such reverence

Although most of the storyline is fairly predictable, it still makes for a fun read, with plenty of chuckles along the way.

very well written, however I found the ending a bit disappointing.
