I haven't read very far into the book but I already like it. It's reminiscent of The Pickwick Papers. I almost thought Dickens was writing it under a pseudonym. I hope the humor of these little anecdotes keeps up!
A young man goes against his father's wishes and marries a girl beneath his station. The girl turns out to be quite a piece of work. Lots of suspense and tension. Highly recommended.
I haven't finished it yet, but I am riveted. The book was told to the author by an ex-courtier from the court of Kaiser Wilhelm before WWI. He cheerfully reveals the scandals and creepy personalities of the royalty and other court followers. Very fun reading.
A novel about the twilight of absolute monarchy in the days before WWI. The Hamlet-like crown prince of a fictitious balkan kingdom is beset by doubts about his superiority. His father, a staunch absolutist, is the target of revolutionary activity.
