The one that most people is going to remember, if they binge watched Friends, is the Louisa May Alcott novel, Little Women. It was in season three where Joey manages to convince Rachel to read The Shining and in turn he begins reading Little Women. I think this was one of the funniest episodes in the season and the way it all turns out was so unexpected. To this day my circle of friends joke about upsetting books being "freezer books."
Here are all the ones that I recall seeing. In Donnie Darko, Donnie can be seen reading a book called The Destructors from the author Graham Greene. The book is apparently part of the teens english assignment at school and due to its controversial content about kids wrecking someones house is the cause for a rant by one of the parents at PTA meeting. She is convinced that the book served as inspiration for a the vandalism that occurred at the school, which involved flooding of the building. Donnie also considers the story the be ironic when he is asked about it in his English class and explains how he thinkgs that destruction is a form of creation. There is also Rory from The Gilmore Girls who read more books than I can mention here. There are websites out there dedicated to her reading habits, so go check those out if you are interested. Another big reader was Sawyer from Lost who could be seen reading a number of books including Watership Down, A Wrinkle In Time, Lancelot, and Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret.
