Twilight. The movies are absolutely terrible, but since the books are trash I guess it means they accomplished their mission. The Fifty Shades of Grey movie franchise has also pulled out all the stops to equal the books in how cringeworthy they are.

All of the Harry Potter books by J. K. Rowling. For years I had to hear about how awesome the books are and how I must read them, but when I finally sat down and did so it was a letdown. For something that is supposed to be the best-selling book series in all of history, there are just too many plot holes and lazy writing to agree. It's no use trying to argue the point with Potter fans either as they are all so obsessed with the boy wizard that they can't see any wrong with the books.

This is going to be a very unpopular opinion, but if a television show or movie is too faithful to the books they are inevitably going to be dull and boring. Game of Thrones is a good example of a book that deviated from the source material and a couple of significant ways and still managed to be excellent. A movie or show that is just a word for word recap of the book is not going to win over many fans, despite what they might claim, because they are two very different mediums. We will easily sit through entire chapters that are just the inner monologues of characters, but can you honestly imagine doing that in a movie or television show? There are also plenty of things that sound very cool on paper, but if you were to actually see it play out on the big screen it would look completely ridiculous. As I said, there are going to be people who disagree with me on this one, but that's just how I feel. I prefer my books to be books, my television shows to be television shows and my movies to be movies.
