I mean what average, plain looking high school teen could say that she wouldn't love to have a handsome, dangerous, vampire fall madly in love with her? For a lot of teenage girls these books were their first exposure to the romance genre and I don't think they wanted to read the same type of books that their parents read, so this was something new and different for them. It has also the classic romance tropes as well, such as the forbidden love and love triangle, but it is not as over the top with the love scenes as other romance books. Twilight gets a lot of hate these days, but I think it is just a reaction to its popularity and because so many other books have ripped to rip off its formula. Are they the best written or most in-depth romance books on the market? Of course not, but they still accomplished everything that the author set out to do and for that alone I think they deserve a lot more respect. I mean, how rare is it to have a series of books that mothers enjoyed just as much as their daughters?

11/02/2019
