A classic ''self-help'' book.

from, and could not be without, the seed, so every act of a man springs from the hidden seeds of thought, and could not have appeared without them. This applies equally to those acts called "spontaneous" and "unpremeditated" as to those, which are deliberately executed.

Act is the blossom of thought, and joy and suffering are its fruits; thus does a man garner in the sweet and bitter fruitage of his own husbandry.

"Thought in the mind hath made us, What we are By thought was wrought and built. If a man's mind Hath evil thoughts, pain comes on him as comes The wheel the ox behind....

..If one endure In purity of thought, joy follows him As his own shadow--sure."

Man is a growth by law, and not a creation by artifice, and cause and effect is as absolute and undeviating in the hidden realm of thought as in the world of visible and material things. This is an excellent book. It's simple message delivered in less than 65 powerful well structure pages, simply asks us as individuals to realize the freedom and power of our own minds. To add anything but respectful praise to that True effort, is to show ones own limitation of awareness and perception.
'As a Man Thinketh' is a nice self-help book. It made me feel good, so I will say is a bit of a "feel good" essay. A lot on how thoughts translate into a reality, and stuff like that. This was "the secret" a hundred years before 'The Secret'.
Allen's wisdom is timeless. To say nothing of the discipline to be gained by the concept " All things good or bad start with a thought".

This is one book needed to change one's life. Must read for everyone. Something is always realised and learnt in every read:-)
It is not difficult to understand why this book has been read by perhaps, tens of millions of people in many languages. The idea has its beginning from the scripture in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible Proverbs chapter 23:7 "For as a man thinketh in his heart so is he". From its source we can see that the message has universal application. All men and women would be better off if they cultivated high minded thoughts and thus went forth to do high minded acts. I consider the Holy Scriptures as the most important books I ever read in my lifetime. I consider the book "Jesus the Christ" by James E Talmage as next most important book I ever read. I consider As a Man Thinketh" to be the next most impotant books I ever read in my lifetime.
A unique combination of liberal Christianity and Buddhism, James Allen (1864-1912) has written a book that has been read by millions even though he himself was dissatisfied with it.

The reader must bear in mind that there are a number of suppositions in Allen's book that were obvious to the reader of the early 20th century, that there were universal, true north, moral principles that were absolutes. Adherents to today's situation ethics will find little of value in this work and it may even do damage as there is an infinite distance between the moral absolutes held by Allen and the "If it feels good, do it" attitude of today.

10/10..really so inspiring, motivating, full of hope and insights..the master piece of JAMES ALLEN..u'll feel it's effect on ur whole life..a must read book.
