A novella and two short stories, not especially juvenile. The title tale is a really sweet romance. No longer so young woman's lost love returns and their happiness is threatened by her selfish father.
Willful young heiress falls in love with young man in portrait. He's imprisoned on a devil's island for murder. There is plenty of action and suspense, and it's well written. You could figure out the ending pretty early on, but instead just sit back and enjoy.
Dunce of an amateur detective poses as heiress' fiance. She thinks someone else is posing as her, fooling her friends and her banker. Interesting idea. Would have been shorter if he had been smarter.

Reports from the casebook of a ghost-debunker. He explains why the things that go bump in the night have reasonable explanations. Interesting but not a lot of fun. Like Watson telling us everyone died of natural causes.
Opening this book is like dipping into a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. Fourteen little stories, some romances and some ghost stories. Take a bite.
This is just terrible. How can you respect a private detective who kisses his old girlfriend's picture. (She jilted him.) And who feels faint whenever he sees his new love. Yuck. Whole lot of swooning going on. And more talking about it. This is a mystery not a Harlequin romance.
A sweet young thing tries on 500-year-old boots made by a vengeful sorceress and gets more than sore toes. (Cue Nancy Sinatra singing "These boots were made for walking") However, it's a VERY short story and over way too soon. Enjoy it for what it is. But imagine it in the hands of Stephen King.
Everyone is wearing scads of jewels - emeralds, diamonds, pearls - and there's a thief using the fog as a cover to score big, big, big. What's a girl to do if she thinks she recognizes the thief's voice? When it's attached to a very attractive young man? Jolly good fun!
