This is the first book I read by this author. He has since become one of my favorites. While the book doesn\\\'t really go anywhere, and the main character is an utter cad, the writing style is great. Willeford is succinct, almost terse, yet creates interesting characters with those few words.

This short story is a good light read. It is more reminiscent of science fiction from earlier periods, rather than the mid 50’s when it was apparently written. It is certainly not hard science fiction, nor is it filled with any particular surprises, but moves along at a good pace and held my attention to the end.
