A lot of fun, with everything from street slums to pirate ships, to tropical islands filled with head-hunting natives, and back to New York City high life. A wonderful, now campy, read that had me considering reading ahead - it was that good!

A lesser-known Frances Hodgson Burnett book, written for adults, which was a "bestseller" of both 1913 and 1914. A wonderfully interesting story of a New Yorker who is transported into an English country life, with many twists and turns. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Lots of "street" action, very tame by today's standards, but a wonderful snapshot of what life must have been like at the time. Maybe a little preachy but I was willing to put up with it. This book was written with "young boys" as the target audience, and I'm sure if they understood New York City in the 1860's, it would be enjoyed. I loved it - my first Horatio Alger book.

Such a lovely story, with typical Burnett descriptions of lesser-class people, and a lovely twist ending! Thoroughly enjoyable - Glad I took the time to read it.
