I thought that I had predicted the ending, but I was surprised at the final twist at the end. The heroes are appropriately manly, the distressed damsel appropriately helpless, and the villains appropriately evil!
Keep in mind that the gender roles are typical of the time period in which it was written, and you'll have a wonderful time with this adventure romp. I kept "turning" pages, wondering what our villain would have up her sleeve next.
The ending was a little weak - it seems as though Wallace might have been setting up for a sequel.

A combination of mystery, exotic adventure locals - and a bit of crazy stalker thrown in.

The closing scene between the two love interests was a delight to read.
