What a great read. The descriptions of San Salvatore make one start looking up travel sites and planning a vacation there. There is a motion picture and a castle in Portofino on which the book is based. It's actually a popular book but I only found it through manybooks.

Engrossing and well written tale of love and comeuppance set in early days of Dallas during the oil boom. Ambiguous and likeable characters and for a change, some strong female characters, literally.

It's a good book not a great one. A wealthy, drifting English heir in his thirties goes to France to escape his creditors. He falls in love at first sight with a young French girl and takes up a post as her father's secretary to be near her.
The rest of the book is like a detective story as fortunes change, politics, mystery and death surround the girl's father and the hero hunts down the man behind the crime, with his new French best friend.
The plot twists and turns in a confusing manner, making one feel the book may have been written as a serial.

A fairly engrossing detective/mystery story about a woman who disappears from a murder scene, seemingly into thin air. For a change, the police as well as detective are portrayed as normal characters and the mystery unravels gradually instead of stretching out to the very end.

Wonderfully written, full of romance and humor. The plot turns, varied characters and snappy conversations are excellent. One irritant is the main character Sophy which comes out looking stolid and laid back as opposed to romantic despite being surrounded by other interesting characters who all are in love with her, Sophy hides her feelings from everyone including the readers.

A must read..draws the reader in.

Loosely strung story of the life of an upper class English youth. The scenes jump, characters come and go, the narrator shifts abruptly from third person to first person. But despite all that, it's typical English humor, the hero is more lucky than deserving, and you can doze off without really worrying about what happens next. These kind of books were probably 19th century equivalents of YouTube cat videos - enjoy once, share with your friends and forget about it.

Nice story. The first half is more riveting than the second. Despite the title, its not a King Solomon's mines or Indiana Jones but an engrossing story nonetheless.

A really good and reportedly, one of the earliest in the locked door mystery genre. I liked the humorous style of writing and the characters involved. Don't miss this one if you like to curl up with a good locked door mystery.

Nice, light, innocent and funny. Not similar to, but brings Three Men in a Boat to mind. I read the ePub version but listening to the audiobook would be a perfect way to enjoy this story.
