There is no Cornelia Van Gorder in this book. But saying that it's an interesting story of the murder of the man in lower ten.

Janice gets word that her dad has been wounded in Mexico so she goes down there to find him. Also Uncle Jason stands to lose the farm.

How Janice Day Won finds Janice still in Polktown and her dad still in Mexico and danger. When the opening of a bar in Polktown causes things to go wrong Janice starts a temperance campaign. Also Nelson is accused of stealing some rare old coins. Will they prove him innocent?

Janice goes to stay at her Uncle's house in Poketown while her dad is in Mexico on business. She finds that Poketown is a run down place and that her relatives are very lazy people so she sets about to wake them up and in the process changes the whole town for the better. Janice also finds someone special.

Trouble with housekeepers, a missing treasure box and the problems of friends plague Janice and her dad until everything works out at the end.

Just when you think that you have this story figured out, you haven't.

I didn't much like Pitt's collection of stuffed animals for the purpose of display which included the bald eagle. That explains why there are so many endangered and extinct species today. And Esther seemed to think that she was too good to live in a little house on a poorer street. The people there weren't of her "class". That doesn't seem too charitable to me. Or how a Christian should act. Does she forget that Christ was a carpenter?
