Mark’s book reviews

The book was about the SOG selection process, with a few flashbacks to Vietnam combat experiences. It was an interesting read that made Parris Island seem like Disneyland in comparison. (It wasn't.) I only wish there was more about Rambo himself in it.

If you like stories where things turn out well in the end, if you need a little lift in your life, give this one a pass.

I found it a rather depressing, meaningless quest which turned out poorly for everyone involved. The description of the Inquisition near the end was the best part of this depressing concoction.

This was so good that I downloaded the rest of the author's books. Modern readers will find the emphasis on honoring one's word unusual, if not quaint. It's not a sermon, it's a very good tale of mystery, adventure and romance set in an interesting time.

This is a decent thriller, if you are into hippie fantasies, stereotypes and a whitewashing of history. Contrary to the author's assertions, the radical left did kill innocents. The action is OK, the author's strident politics are probably what prevented it from becoming a published novel.
