The author of this work is not Robert Sheckley; it is Ned Lang. Not a bad short story; I liked the Undertakers chasing him but the ending was a bit weak.

The Bear

Quite gripping horror/supernatural short story playing on the vampire/werewolf theme, but in the form of a gigantic bear. An ostracised Sheriff, a multi-talented monk and a strange giant of a man, set off into the dark woods to try and hunt down a huge beast that has been terrorizing the Sheriff's town by tearing any unfortunate inhabitants out late to pieces.
