Then most interesting and haunting of Garrett's stories. Think of No Child Left Behind and Common Core. Prophecy by Sci-fi?

This story presents an idea that is fundamental to the way this society works but hardly anyone comes out and says it.

Information Hiding

It is now 43 years after the Moon landing. How are we supposed to believe economists don\'t know about \"planned obsolescence\" in cars? When have you heard economists discuss it? There are hundreds of millions of more computers today than there were in the 1980s. They are all von Neumann machines. When do you ever hear that.

The way different organizations hide information in this story is a microcosm of the REAL WORLD. Good SCIENCE Fiction is More Than Literature.

This is a nice entertaining story. Robert F. Young is a write in addition to being a science fiction writer. He brings to mind Ray Bradbury.

The story is oddly entertaining until half way through then you find how really weird it is. But the bone does not hit you in the head until the end. It is a whole 'nuther kind of alien abduction story. It is exceptional for such an old and free work of SF.

This is a nice interesting history as long as you remember it is from 1922. It is more interesting than most histories because it is from H. G. Wells. Wells was a futurist and he predicted World War II in this book. Some things are wrong like is age for the Earth being 2 billion years while now it is said to be 4.4 billion. But even with the unimportant errors and the last 90 years missing it is more lively than most history books I have encountered.

He does go off on a bit of a socialist rant a few chapters from the end but was a hoot too.

Excellent first contact story. A bit on the gory side though, but it is really about totallydifferent cultural programming. Aliens would have to be alien. More interesting than NOR CRYSTAL TEARS by Alan Dean Foster.

The business with the twins is kind of conveniently contrived, but otherwise quite interesting.
