First read it when I was 15 and it froze me in terror. Then came Christopher Lee's excellent scary film. Then on I have read the book many times and love getting disturbed every time. Set at Victorian period with the old England language, the book still fascinates me.

A family from 1940's decide to travel in to the future and land in a time a 100 yrs later. How could they do it is a big question. They make an impression on a dead and decadent society of the time. Very abrupt ending with little or no plot.

One of my favourite books when in school. I read it many times after that. Now I own a copy and still reading it. The book is sure to bring in a spirit of adventure in young people.

A nation is guarded against anarchy by people obeying its constitutional principles, Federal laws and Penal codes. In all civilized nations this has been the case. Similarly for an orderly society we need social tenets to keep things under control. That is where moral codes come in to picture. Unfortunately morality and religion have been thrown to the winds. This book revives these thought process.

Splendid. This is a real movie stuff written over a hundred years ago. May be Prates of the Caribbeans has been inspired by Collingwood's pirate tales. The story is so engrossing that I completed in one stretch. This thriller is about a 17 year old boy (the book is not classified for young readers only) who is assigned to captain a ship all by himself. I recommend this wonderful book for its descriptions, geographical knowledge and sail-ship technicalities. You will love it.

Sir Walter Scott is an author with a tough style. Tough I said; but thoroughly enjoyable. His books are no paperback novels. He will take us to the medieval age in his slow moving train. I am a slow reader and I enjoy his writing word by word. I would recommend that the prequel 'The Monastery' should be read along with this book.

Wow. Excellent prediction by Forster and it is unbelievable that he was able to see this decadence in human social development, even in 1909.

Well. We have almost reached that stage. Mom talking to kids far away through facebook and skype is a reality. People do not have time to see friends and they prefer talking to them through social media. We no longer move out most of the time. Soon we will all be 'lumps of flesh' in hexagonal cubicles.

Humans. Wake up from this disastrous nightmare. Fight net addiction. Let us all meet real people in real time in the good old fasioned way.

God is a super being existing in an entirely different dimension. He does not harbour human emotions like anger, revenge and he would definitely not punish people. This book portrays God as a tyrant who is out to destroy everyone who he considers against Him. This cannot be.
This book preaches violence. The old testament condones stoning people, beheading and other barbarism.
In the new teatament at least, a decent person (the only one)like Jesus stands against such barbaric practices. So one can read the new testament even with all it's impossibilities. Never read O.T which is a study in horror and uncivility.

I read the book. As some of the reviewrs had stated, the book does not read like unresearched. I have also read the Bible and the Koran. The author is giving some plain facts based on these books. When follwers of Christ can be called Christians there was nothing unusual to call the followers of Mohammed as Mohammedans. In fact this was the archaic word for thr muslims. The book gives a clear picture of the situations when Islam was born. Read it with an open mind.

Hearty, Humourous, Hilarious. Kipling in his elements. Read between the lines for some stinging remarks on the British snobbery and their views on the 'barbaric' simplicity of the natives. Lizbeth manifests the conflict between the native innocence and the civilised arrogance. Highly recommended.
