The Man Who Bought London 5 I read this book at random a while back and ended up reading every single Edgar Wallace book I could get my hands on! Twice! I was fairly amazed at the ending. Never saw that coming! 04/07/2012
The Opal Serpent 4 Great story that kept me going till the end. I will read more from Fergus Hume. 02/03/2012
The New Tenant 2 Extremely wordy romance with a backdrop of murder and suspicion. I skipped whole swaths of this story, which has way way too much description and narration of emotional inner state for my tastes. Can't recommend it. His other stuff is much better. 04/21/2011
Havoc 3 Not bad. German agents in London pursue a stolen letter. I liked the hero and the heroine. 04/21/2011
The Double Life of Mr. Alfred Burton 3 Magic beans from the East give disreputable real estate agents an uncompromising devotion to truth, beauty, and dressing properly. Different from Oppenheim's other books, in that it doesn't seem to be a thriller. 04/11/2011
Peter Ruff and the Double Four 3 A series of short stories about Gentleman Criminal and Master of Disguise Peter Ruff. In Part 1, Ruff devotes himself to embarrassing a police detective who caused him some problems and stole his woman. Part 2 turns from crime to politics and international intrigue as Peter joins a secret society to battle the wily German spy, Bernadine. Light hearted with a bit of romance along with the action and fancy pants English dialogue. Worth reading. 04/07/2011
Mysterious Mr. Sabin 4 This was really good! At first, I thot it would be dumb, but the story really sucked me in, and now, I am working my way thru the rest of Oppenheim's 'thrillers'. Fans of Edgar Wallace might enjoy this and others by the same author. 04/05/2011
