After enjoying Wild Wives by the same author I was looking forward to this short novel. However the story doesn't seem to go anywhere. The writing style flows smoothly but I just couldn't see what the point of the story was.
For me this writer is just as good as Hammett or Chandler. This pulp noir story follows a small time private detective through a hellish journey when he is hired by a mysterious woman. I was gripped from the first page to the last and urge any curious reader to give this short novel a chance.
I loved this slice of escapism from ERB. It took me a while to get into the flow of the story but soon I was whisked away to another fantastic world which Edgar Rice Burroughs does so well. Take a chance with this book you won't be disappointed.
Another rip roaring story from Robert E Howard. The El Borak stories just keep getting better and this one is not to be missed. If you've read any of the others you know what to expect. If not just buckle your seatbelt and get set for a wild ride of bullets, fist fights and crazy savages.
At first I wasn't sure if I liked the El Borak stories as much as the Conan or Solomon Kane ones. But I have to say this story is electrifying. It rushes from the start to the end like a freight train. It's packed full of action and adventure. Highly recommended.
This story has inspired countless other books and films. It's a quick exciting read that shows how much you can do with a short story, it could quite easily have been expanded into a novel. I highly recommend this story.
