A tale with the glamor of medieval romance, which centers about the mystery that five hundred years before Marco's day, the young prince of the kingdom of Samavia had walked away over the mountains, singing, and had never been heard from. And Marco, a lad of twelve, pledged to the future service of Samavia, lives an unpretentious, wandering life, trained in all worthy things by his father, til his journey as Bearer of the Sign is ended, and his appointed time has come.

This was because of the promises he had made to his father, and they had been the first thing he remembered. Not that he had ever regretted anything connected with his father. He threw his black head up as he thought of that. None of the other boys had such a father, not one of them. His father was his idol and his chief. I also enjoyed the excellent writing in this mixture of fairy tale and boyish adventure. I am however glad that today's children get a less nationalist and honor-heavy education, and develop much more abilities than a good memory and the command of many languages.
I have loved this book since I was 8, and though it has been years, it's magical plot never fails to touch me. It is the embodiment of the dreams of youth, possiblities and imagination. Highly recommended!
The story really takes you in. I haven't enjoyed a book like that for quite some time. It has adventure, background and surprises mixed in all together. A wonderful read.
I love this book! Something good, I do recommend it for anyone. It shows the power of silence, the awe of in-built majesty, how far it can take one who has it in him/herself.
In the Christian life, we should have the character of those in this book. The young boy... he blessed me by his character and full absolute unquestioning trust in his father.
