took himself very seriously, and life, and his work, which latter was the tutoring of the young son of a British nobleman. He felt that his charge was not making the progress that his parents had a right to expect, and he was now conscientiously explaining this fact to the boy's mother.

"It's not that he isn't bright," he was saying; "if that were true I should have hopes of succeeding, for then I might bring to bear all my energies in overcoming his obtuseness; but the trouble is that he is exceptionally intelligent, and learns so quickly that I can find no fault in the matter of the preparation of his lessons. What concerns me, however, is that fact that he evidently takes no interest whatever in the subjects we are studying. Read this many years ago- this series should be read in order as I am trying yo do now as it is more enjoyable
A refreshing return to the jungle,in the Tarzan Series. It is, however, Tarzan's son who enters the jungle, and appears to be a true son of his father.
Tarzan's intelligent ape friend takes care of Tarzan's son!

Such an excellent story. So much lost and then found by all.

Treachery, adventure, growing-up, romance, war -- This book has it all.
My favorite book of the Tarzan series so far! The tale just grabs you and won't let you go, and I LOVED the ending so much -- this book is just wonderful, as they all have been! It's really hard to believe it was written in 1914. I don't think most people know how different these books are from the Tarzan image we all have from movies and television, I know I didn't! I was also very happy to discover recently that one of my favorite directors, Guillermo del Toro, is reading the series, too, and hoping to make a movie based on the first book in the series that will remain true to the prose of Edgar Rice Burroughs!
As a mom, this book made my heart ache, but I enjoyed the story nonetheless. Lots of adventure, new characters to enjoy, and familiar story lines that make reading the Tarzan series such a great joy.
