despite the subtitle, st. george and st. michael is a better romance or adela cathcart. this is a work , probably C. S. lewis was referring to when he said none of his longer novels were any good. if you put it down about halfway you'll be better off. george macdonald is a fantastic writer but this is not. the c. s. lewis quote, by the way, is from George Macdonald an anthology.
this is a pretty fun book in spite of being placed at the time of the 2nd crusade when Richard the lionhearted attempted to retake the Holyland. it is a historical novel like quentin durward et al. the most interesting character is Saladin and i noticed a small resemblance to the movie "the kingdom of Heaven".orlando bloom, liam neeson.......ya gotta love knights and chivalry.
amy carmichael cuts through religion, theological blah blah with actions of a life that gave itself for the orphans of india. her word pictures of the little tykes are pretty cute and make you feel only a little guilty because of the love you can see that she had for them. Thank God for an uplifting book from someone who answered His call.
john bunyan's autobiography in an english that's a little difficult to read. Probably only a crazy....er serious seeker should even look at this one. the minute detail of his conversion and the retracing of ground had me beating my head with a stick just to get a little relief. i love pilgrim's progress and will probably read it again but i have a pretty firm resolve to not read this one again.
