Little bit spooky. Interesting ending. Very readable.

Good writer. If you like to read about war in the 1600's there is a fair amount of fighting. Not just a romance novel.

Any book that starts out with the beating of an animal isn't worth my time.

The ending is certainly not a surprise, as stated by another reviewer, but this is quite an absorbing read. The author is able to grab your attention from the very beginning and to maintain throughout the book. Interesting perspective as well.

Lovely story, especially the first several chapters. A bit too drawn out during the war years, but with a little surprise ending to make plowing through it worth your while.
