Marie Bruemmer’s book reviews

Top quality adventure! He develops the story psychologically as well as a modern author would. Bravo!!

I delighted in how much he enjoyed his neighbors. Makes me think I need to enjoy my own neighbors more. I would like to be as observant as he is. A fun read.

After allowing for how wordy the author is, and of course how much the style of biographies has changed over the years, I enjoyed the book. It is very long but worth the read if you are patient.

I agree with the previous reviewer. First of all it is too melodramatic. Then partway through, the author reveals how prejudiced he is against the Catholic church, and how ignorant he is of it as well. Too much negativity also.

The first half of this little book is a lecture on positive thinking, and it was quite enjoyable. However he then started to advertise for his various other books, and I felt that putting all those ads in a book is in poor taste.

A charming little book on simplicity. It is very dated at a lot of places, but he still has ideas we should consider.

This is a book of articles on various nature subjects. It is a really enjoyable read. I would have liked strolling the woods or shores with him.

I loved this book! He also has more feeling for the South African natives than so many writers in those days. I enjoyed the book enough I will try some of the others in the "Allan Quatermain" series.

This is a 908 page tome. And while the contents are dated at times (very dated indeed at times) it is still a really worthwhile read. Not for the easily bored however. Also it is a bit discouraging to find that so many people are no more religiously enlightened today than they were in the 1860's when the author was remonstrating against their position.(He is a Christian, but a liberal one.) I have never seen so much on this subject in one place before, however. And he truly does try to show all sides to the best of his ability. I highly recommend this tome.

Fast easy read. I too read this when young. Still funny after all these years.
