I can't get enough of Dickens and this is a great book.

This early effort from Twain should not be taken lightly. We are thoroughly entertained from start to finish and Twain's creative mind and his humor is as good as anything else he wrote.

While is wit is razor sharp his judgment however is not developed as in his later work. I've read most of Twain's work and I know he was not a racist. This book however comes off very racist as every culture he encounters is ridiculed.

There is an awful passage where he describes the deformed and handicapped of Constantinople that will make you cringe. Ignore these lapses in judgment (if you can).

This is otherwise a very fine work.

"A satire of American values, the power of conformity, and the vacuity of American life." must have been a pretty radical idea in 1922 when this book was written. But we have seen this done so many times since in movies, book and plays that it feels very old and tired. It does have a great ending and the writing is top notch. I really felt for the characters.

If they made you read this in High School and you hated it, read it again. It's a gripping story.

It's a very important book and it's lessons must never be forgotten.

Very good reading.
