. The relative value of any given system of religious thought must depend on the amount of truth which it embodies as well as on the ethical standard which its adherents are bidden to follow. Another important test is the degree of originality that is to be assigned to it, for it can manifestly only claim credit for that which is new in it, not for that which it borrowed from other systems.
With regard to the first-named criterion, there is a growing opinion among students of religious history that Muhammed may in a real sense be regarded as a prophet of certain truths, though by no means of truth in the absolute meaning of the term. The shortcomings of the moral teaching contained in the Koran are striking enough if judged from the highest ethical standpoint with which we are acquainted; but a much more favourable view is arrived at if a comparison is made between the ethics of the Koran and the moral tenets of Arabian and other forms of heathenism which it supplanted.

The only difference of the versions is the variation of transaltion. Translating classical Arabic (fus-ha) into English is not an easy task, and the variations can be abundant; nonetheless, the essence and meaning are pretty much identical.
I read both of the versions; not much difference in translation. The English text, although varying, translated into the same thing in Arabic.
There are two versions because of the nature of the translation, not because a change has occured in the Koranic text.
Remember, translation is an art, not a science.

It should be titled "The Holy Quran (Koran), Rodwell Translation."
There are hundreds of translations on Internet, with each claiming to be the most authentic. Reader should first learn about translator and then pick his translation to understand the text in light of translator's background.

This is another attempt by yet another Orientalist to have a dig at Islam.

I don't get the idea of Quran series.
There is only one Quran in this world, that
will never changed until the judgment day.
I'M against the idea of publicate the
Quran but that must done by the known
islamic translators.

What does one mean by '1st version'?
There is only ONE Quran. No versions or stuff like that.
People, if you really want to read the Quran get the Arabic version, if you dont understand Arabic, then get translations by well-known islamic scholars. I say so because the usage of Arabic language in the Quran is far from the regular spoken Arabic, and the fact that Arabic grammar is the most complex grammar, makes it a little hard to correctly comprehend and translate it. It thus becomes vital to have some background of Islam, before trying to write a translation of this holy book.
