First published in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, Wuthering Heights is considered to be a classic of English literature.

'Were you asked to tea?' she demanded, tying an apron over her neat black frock, and standing with a spoonful of the leaf poised over the pot.

'Were you asked?' she repeated.
'No,' I said, half smiling. 'You are the proper person to ask me.'
She flung the tea back, spoon and all, and resumed her chair in a pet; her forehead corrugated, and her red under-lip pushed out, like a child's ready to cry.

Pathetic.
I did not at all like. The author was determined to make every single thing in the novel a tragedy. She kills almost every character present in starting. And, there is no love or love story. Very rough and cruel. And most importantly tough of literature is not there.

This book was actually written by Branwell Bronte, the much maligned brother - and evidence to prove this should be available soon via the 'Graphic Authorship Attribution Programme' that recently revealed J K Rowling to be the author of a detective novel!

best love story ever written . you can really feel the depth of emotions in some passage. some scenes are so beautifully described that u begin to feel a lump in your throat

Fascinating story, but the end of it was disappointing to me. It seems that the author was determined to make a "happy end" and created most improbable scenario that two people who hated each other so much would fall in love and get married.

In spite of its age, the direct language makes it quite accessible to a modern audience.
It's unfairly characterized as a love story - it's really a hate story: hate and revenge; and what Heathcliff feels for Cathy is more of an unstoppable obsession that makes him gloat in the destruction of anyone who stood between him and her.
I keep coming back to this one, because the depth of emotion in the characters makes many passages a joy to read again and again.

Though some call it a proper romance and some-- 'ill-fated'. But my judgment would be that it is special genre of both of them. This book is one of the precious classics I would say, and will tender your heart and going through this book you might experience some feelings that never had.

The first time I picked up this book I really struggled through the initial 50 pages. It was such a strange situation with so many unfamiliar characters, that I thought I would have to just give up.
Thankfully I didn't (it wasn't as complicated as I had thought) and it is now my favorite novel, read many times over. Dark and relentless--a true masterpiece of Gothic fiction.
