refore be not lifted up by any skill or knowledge that thou hast; but rather fear concerning the knowledge which is given to thee. If it seemeth to thee that thou knowest many things, and understandest them well, know also that there are many more things which thou knowest not. Be not high-minded, but rather confess thine ignorance. Why desirest thou to lift thyself above another, when there are found many more learned and more skilled in the Scripture than thou? If thou wilt know and learn anything with profit, love to be thyself unknown and to be counted for nothing.

4. That is the highest and most profitable lesson, when a man truly knoweth and judgeth lowly of himself. To account nothing of one's self, and to think always kindly and highly of others, this is great and perfect wisdom. Even shouldest thou see thy neighbor sin openly or grievously, yet thou oughtest not to reckon thyself better than he, for thou knowest not how long thou shalt keep thine integrity. All of us are weak and frail; hol

Every time there is a need for Christ to interfere i.e special occasion when I am not able to take a decision and confused, I simply say a Prayer to Jesus, open the book randomly and go to the nearest next chapter and read it. 10 out of 10 times, the solution came to me. The guidance of Jesus came to me. Strongly suggest that everyone have a copy with them always. To people of other divisions i.e.non-RC, I suggest please read this book. It is applicable to every one in all denominations of Christians.

Shawn Crisp, the book does focus on Christ's philosophy. If you think Christianity is sky worship then I think you have completely mistaken what Jesus Christ was all about, and obviously this book is wasted on you. Shame really, if only you opened your mind up a bit. As to it not being modern, well do you really think intrinsic human nature has changed one iota in 2000 years? That is the modernist myth!
God's purpose in our lives is to make us more Christlike. That work requires our full surrender and death to the self life. It is a process the Lord will bring us through if we are willing to enter His purposes for our life. Once we enter the death process we become aware of the new life of Christ forming within us that started at our salvation.

This devotional presents us many thoughts that challenge us as to whether or not we are actually in the faith or are self deceived by false religious notions.

It lays out a perspective we should all have that only comes from having been in the presence of Father after having sought after Him and found Him.

I commend this work to anyone who is not satisfied with where they are at and want to get closer to the one who gave us our life.
A must book for spiritual aspirants. An inspiring guide to those on the path of self-inquiry, it offer practical guidance and self-acquired wisdom. It belongs to the same genre as "Pilgrim's Progress", "Hind's Feet in High Places" and "Autobiography of a Yogi".

Daniel you need to read the book again and daily. The Bible is even older.
I love this book. I read it every day and it never fails to knock me off my feet with something I needed to hear but didn't want to hear.

For a really good reality check and a deeper understanding of your relationship with Christ, this book is a must.

I picked up this book because I read that it was the second most important book a Christian would ever read. I was surprised at how fast I read it. It is not only the most second most important it's the second best book you can read about how to act with you fellow man and woman. I recomend this book to Christians and Catholics that have trouble reading the Bible. After reading The Imitation of Christ you will want to read the Bible. I pray that this review will get many people to try the book. God Bless and enjoy. Your in for a true treat in literature.
I don't know what the other person above me said about this book not focusing on the philosophy of Christ. This book does nothing but focus everything on not just the philosophy of Christ but the life of Christ and how to live it.

I was rather overwhelmed when I first read this book and stopped taking notes because every word and sentence took me away as if I got hit by lightning. I own over 40 Christian books and this is my top 5.

Beautiful book and highly recommended to the more mature Christian that wants to get to another level. Warning: You will be humbled.
After the Bible, this book is a must for anyone wishing to gain a closer with relationship with Our Lord. Prayer and fasting will help to take away any blindness from its meaning. This book should be kept handy and read over and over again for anyone who is searching for truth.
