It started in Greece on the day after tomorrow. Before the last act raced to a close, Coburn was buried to his ears in assorted adventures, including a revolution and an invasion from outer space! We're not given to throwing around the word "epic" lightly, but here is one! Swashbuckling action, a great many vivid characters, and a weird mystery—all spun for you by one of the master story-tellers of our time.

Though I ended up skimming most of this story out of pure boredom, I followed it all the way to the end, looking for redeeming qualities. There are none. It's a mess of writing all the way around.
An over-the-border foray into Greece by the Communist Bulgarian army panics the villagers and traps a couple of Americans in the chaos. Then the American, Coburn, discovers that something decidedly not human is inhabiting human bodysuits and infiltrating society for its own purposes. A different kind of invasion.

A great story of modern day paranoia and intrigue. The main character is realistically bewildered and angry at being used. The love interest is okay, and the rest of the main characters can be distinguished from one another. The plot could have gone either way, and the ending is realistic (from what I know of alien invaders.)
