Short stories about small incidents in ordinary people's lives--joys, disappointments, insults, betrayals. Nothing heroic, violent, or superhuman happens. The descriptive detail is dense, sometimes to the point of clogging up the story.

Elegant, beautiful and poignant fiction from this gifted New Zealand writer, who worked prolifically before her untimely death in 1923, aged just 34. These stories gently convey a range of human emotion, at times wistfully, at others with humor.
