Augusta (Guste) Leubelfing toimiskeli kuin huumauksissa huoneessansa, pisti tavaransa matkalaukkuun, pukeutui kiiruusti isänsä vaatteihin, jotka hänen hoikalle, solakalle vartalolleen sopivat kuin valetut, ja laskeutui sitte polvilleen rukoilemaan anteeksi kujettansa sekä anomaan menestystä toimeensa.
Kun hän jälleen astui alas saliin, huusi kornetti hänelle jo vastaan: "Joutukaahan, kumppani! Kiire on! Hevoset tepastelevat! Kuningas odottaa meitä! Ottakaa jäähyväiset isältä ja serkulta!" ja hän kaatoi kerrassaan hänen eteensä asetetun suuren pikarin sisällyksen hienon pitsikauluksensa turviin.
