_The Black Box_ is a series of loosely connected short stories detailing the adventures of Sanford Quest, world\'s greatest criminologist. I read most of it then moved on - awkward dialog, predictable plot, and points of interest few and far between.
A British gentleman befriends a charming con-man and his beautiful stepdaughter. I highly recommended it for some light amusement. This seems like the sort of thing the film industry would have jumped on at one time, I wonder if it was ever made into a movie?
In this short story Conan has barely escaped pursuers after his court appearance does not go well (he kills the judge). Attempting escape by sea, he is quickly captured by a beautiful pirate queen. Plenty of pulpy action follows.
An excellent novel of crime and political intrigue by an obscure author who apparently lived a very active and interesting life. Unfortunately this is W. Holt-White's only book available on manybooks.net.

Surprisingly disappointing considering the 4 star aggregate review. Weak plot and the only memorable characters either die early or are memorable only for their annoying qualities. I am in the minority on this one, decide for yourself.
Space pulp, with most of the standard elements - the down-on-his-luck space pilot, the scantily clad space-babe with a mission. Throw in evil aliens in pursuit and how can you go wrong? Nothing deep here, but a decent time killer if you're stuck in a waiting room.
Fairly good espionage novella. The plot is contrived but entertaining. None of the characters really stand out, they are formulaic for the time. Persistent police, evil villains, and a woman in harm's way.
One of the best crime novels I have found on this site. Not really a "mystery", as the crimes are clearly portrayed. The four-way game between the intelligent criminal, peripheral criminals, pursuers, and victims is brilliantly written. I agree with the "6 star" comment, this book really stands out.
