I love Fanny Burney. I first read Evelina in the 1970s when I was feeling bereft because I had just finished reading everything by Jane Austen, and as far as I was concerned, there was nothing left worth reading. Enter Evelina. I loved it. I have wondered ever since if it was as good as I remembered. It is. Fanny Burney writes very well. I am on to Cecilia and Camilla and then to Fanny's famous personal diaries. Thanks Manybooks for finding these wonderful volumes.

I am so excited to have found the Penny Parker series here on Manybooks. I have wanted to read these for years! The author wrote the first 5 Nancy Drew stories for the Stratemeyer syndicate. She didn't enjoy the restriction of the Stratemeyer rules and wrote this series on her own. I may have been the number one Nancy Drew fan on the planet when I was a kid, and I found Penny Parker to be just as good if not better. Maybe a little edgier? I loved it and will read everything by Mildred A Wirt Benson that Manybooks can get! Highly recommended for Nancy Drew fans. Enjoy!

Last in the Hildegarde series. As the title implies, all of Hildegarde's dreams come true and happily-ever-after ensues. I thoroughly enjoyed them all. Try the Margaret Montfort series next--they are both strongly connected.

4th in the Hildegarde series. I've become so involved with these characters now that they have become real to me. Such simple times. It is like a window into a lost world. Sort of like the Twilight Zone episode entitled, "Willoughby." If you want simple, non-taxing mental escapism, definitely go for the Hildegarde series and then the Margaret Montfort series after it. Enjoy!

3rd in the Hildegarde series. This is such a nice, escapist series. It is very positive to read about people who truly enjoy every aspect of their lives. It is great fun and sometimes inspiring. A glimpse into a time when people truly seemed to care about the people around them. How sad that we seem to have lost that in our culture.

The 2nd in the Hildegarde series. I liked it. I don't know why I'm reading kids' books in my 60s, but there it is. Hildegarde continues growing up in this one and learns to care even more deeply for others. Worthy.

Lively, engaging story of three sisters coming of age in England. A sweet, simple book. Recommended. Enjoy!

A tale of two totally improbable (but enjoyable) romances. It reads like a comic opera--full of histrionic misunderstandings and overblown comic characters. Don't take any of it seriously. It is simple escapist fun. Enjoy!

Fun! A bit gritty/noir for my taste, but definitely worth reading. There is a lot going on--suspects everywhere! Even though I had most of the solution figured out before the end (probably due to reading more mystery stories than I could count), I would still highly recommend reading it. You will definitely keep turning those pages...enjoy!

I liked it, but I admit to being a great fan of Conan Doyle. The book is SO typical of Doyle. It has all the flavor of a Holmes puzzler without Holmes. This one has a supernatural feel. Of course, it is over the top, but still wonderful. Enjoy!
