Two well-written stories, the first about a time machine, the second about a sentry in an interstellar war. The author was so careful in what he said and didn't say in the second story, that the ending was easy to guess.

Two very short stories — 400 words or so each — taken from Galaxy Science Fiction, February 1954. Despite their brevity, they both manage to set up their twists perfectly.
