they rushed where they liked, tearing from the scarcely-formed rocks material with which to compose schists, sandstones, and limestones. This the roving waves bore over the submerged and now peaty forests, and deposited above them the elements of rocks which were to superpose the coal strata. A most enjoyable book. The story of a city built underground in an old coal mine after new finds bring it back to life. This book is vintage Jules Verne. The "can do" spirit from the characters is refreshing as well as the romance that is held in honor and respect. A good book, that is a light read and reminds us of the spirit of adventure. Highly recommended to both young and old.

Most enjoyable, even if the climax is somewhat unbelievable. Set in a disused mine in Fife, Scotland, a group of people set up a city underground.
Well worth reading.

Underground city is an enjoyable Jules Verne story about people who decide to live in a mine (there is a large subterranean cave in the mine). But unexplainable accidents plague the peaceful inhabitants and threaten to destroy their city.
