Stevenson's best known story. It's the classic tale of Piracy, which for some reason, has been interpreted as a child's story. I loved the book as a child, but even more as an adult.
Stevenson gives a glorified view of the age of Buccaneers, but his strength is in the development of characters like Long John Silver. This is an exciting tale of of an exciting historical period. Stevenson brings it all alive, and transports the reader into an age full of danger and excitement. Don't miss reading this book. It's an all time great read!!!
Captain Blood is a great story of piracy in the West Indies. Lots of swashbuckling action, with a romance mixed in. Sabatini is easy to read, and tells a good tale. There were lots of similarities to the exploits of Henry Morgan, but overall....I'd recommend it as a good introduction to the glorious age of buccaneers. Exciting to read, and well worth your time. Sabatini is in the same league as Robert Louis Stevenson, but for some reason he's not as well known. It's time to get the word out....this guy can write!!!!
Stevenson has the ability to mix storytelling with description and make it not only bearable, but actually interesting. I felt like I was there to witness the story; close calls, ironies, and medieval english. The medieval english was well enough done that it added flavor and not obstacles to the story. I found this book exciting, the story adventurous, and enjoyed it. I think this is more than just a child's story, and seems reminiscient of Howard Pyle's "Robin Hood." If you're looking for a story as good as "Treasure Island," and like medieval times....You'll definitely like this classic Stevenson novel.
