Paul Hatton’s book reviews

fairly well written tale of swords and intrigue under the 'reigh' of Cardinal Richleiu. Moves along well, and the characters develop nicely. Perhaps not the best example of this genre, but worth a look

Not the best crime/thriller by any stretch, however moves along at a fair rate and keeps you reading to discover what happens. Sax Rohmer can't be ranked anywhere near to Doyle or others, but as a pulp fiction writer of the early 20th century, is quite readable

Another great Holmes story, goes on for a while in the middle, but the background is a necessary part of the story, and with a nice twist at the end. As with all of the other Holmes tales, this is a 'must read'. Conan-Doyle is amongst the greats of English literature.

Interesting 2nd story of Homes and Watson, introducing Holmes's addiction. From th estart well written and rolls along at a good pace.

As with the others, I found this a good story which holds your interest until th eending, but a little too short and the ending predictable.

Read this finally a few months back after being a fan of the movie with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee (not to mention Ursula Andress as 'She') Book even better than the film, although not for those who are committed to political correctness as many of the ideas and descriptions are very much of the time. An excellent read and great introduction to the works of Rider Haggard

Beautifully descriptive writing, but not the best Stoker tale by a long shot. Worth reading for the literary style alone.

As with other readers, I got a little lost in the second part, but keep going, it all fits the overall story in the end :-) A really good introduction to Holmes and Watson.

Very well written short set in the near future, and one which could so easily occur. Well worth spening 10 minutes to read this.

Short read and very well written, however I really couldn't see the point of the tale. Compared with the plots in the better know tales of Dickens this is sadly quite poor
