The Return of Tarzan
The story of a young man who, although born of a woman, was left by a succession of untoward circumstances to be reared in an African jungle by a she-ape, the only mother he ever knew. Tarzan was drawn from the jungle by love for a young American girl whom chance threw in his way. Disappointment in love, in this new volume, results in his return to the jungle where he has many strange adventures and whence he is again led forth by love, this time happy love.

"I should today have liked to sample the consistency of his," growled De Coude grimly. "The two deliberately attempted to besmirch my honor, Olga," and then he told her of all that had happened in the smoking-room. "Had it not been for this utter stranger, they had succeeded, for who would have accepted my unsupported word against the damning evidence of those cards hidden on my person? I had almost begun to doubt myself when this Monsieur Tarzan dragged your precious Nikolas before us, and explained the whole cowardly transaction."
"Monsieur Tarzan?" asked the countess, in evident surprise.
"Yes. Do you know him, Olga?"
"I have seen him. A steward pointed him out to me."
"I did not know that he was a celebrity," said the count.

Very exciting adventure book. Unlike "Tarzan of the apes", here the story begins in Paris. Only afterwords Tarzan will return to the jungle. The plot is a very simple one and there are impossible coincidences all over the book; but anyhow, I liked it.

Excellent story despite it's somewhat drawn out star crossed romance theme. It's a great read; fun, adventurous, and romantic. Recommended!

This is the second book in the Tarzan series. I had no idea these books were so good -- they bear little resemblance to any of the movies you have ever seen! Tarzan is always depicted as barely speaking English and living in the trees with "Jane" and "boy." In the books, he's an extremely intelligent man who learns to speak English (and many other languages) beautifully and fulfills his aristocratic destiny with grace and dignity. The books remind me of a cross between Raiders of the Lost Ark, Hidalgo, and The Mummy . . . they are action-packed and gripping -- the beautiful scenes and nasty villains are easily visualized due to Burrough's wonderful storytelling, and you won't be able to put them down!

Despite some antiquated attitudes the majority of this book is really gripping -- great storytelling!
